Almost 100 athletes, ranging from under 9 years old, to the open category, competed in the World Athletics Day track and field meeting. Many of whom are expected to compete in this Sunday?s National Invitational and Club Championships. Maybe you may be attending should you be lucky enough to live in NEVIS REAL ESTATE.
According to St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletics Association PRO Evris Huggins, the meeting, held at St. Kitts? Silver Jubilee Stadium, met the Association?s objectives and produced a number of qualifying athletes for upcoming regional meets.
?Overall we had some great performances, so I can say that the objectives of World Athletics Day were met. We had a number of qualifiers in various events. We had Oneil Thomas being the first junior athlete to qualify for a hurdle event; he qualified in the Under 18 category in the 400m hurdle for the CAC Junior A&B Championships. We also had Bevecia Clarke in the Under 18 female discus,? he added.
He praised the performance of Lestrod Roland, whose 200m time fell 4/100ths of a second short of the Olympic ?B? qualifying standard, but earned him the NACAC Under 23 qualifying standard.
