The event took place at the CARDI field station at Estridge last week, and Pathleen Titus, resident CARDI representative, said ? The field day was organized to make farmers in the Federation, realize what CARDI is doing, in terms of promoting sweet potato production.?
?In the Caricom region we notice from 1999 up to 2010 there has been an increasing trend in sweet potato production in all the islands. A number of people did not know about the high nutritional value and most took the vegetable for granted,? she added.
In the brief opening ceremony attended by many who live in NEVIS REAL ESTATE, she said that over the years there had been a noticeable increase in sweet potato production, not just in St. Kitts-Nevis but across the region.
The participants also received information on how planting different varieties of sweet potato at different times of year, can possibly help prevent non-tuberization, a common complaint from farmers.
